The Issue

Every day, students in school struggle with carrying heavy backpacks due to the large number of paper assignments they receive. If we switched to having online assignments, that would greatly reduce the weight of our backpacks.

Our schools also spend way too much on paper. Last year, across the entire school district, we used 4,420,000 pages of paper. The high school alone used 1,467,000 pages in monochrome and 96,000 pages in color, totaling $46,000 spent on paper. The average amount of paper a typical school uses is around 320,000 pages, and approximately $16,000 is spent. That just goes to show that our school uses way too much paper.

The photo above is only 1 quarter of the school year. Imagine that multiplied by 4. That's an entire school year. Now, imagine that multiplied by 804 students. That is for the whole school!

While reducing the amount of paperwork will definitely benefit students, it can also be a great benefit for teachers! Switching to online assignments makes grading easier, and they have less to carry home each night. Using less paper can also allocate more funds for teachers to use in their classrooms, and not just on printing.

Please help us advocate for less paper!
