The Issue

I am writing this petition out of sheer frustration and concern for those like myself in our community who are struggling to cope with the excessive delivery charges imposed by Orange and Rockland. As a senior living on a fixed income, I recently received an electric bill amounting to $811. Alarmingly, the delivery charges were nearly as high as my usage charges, even though I have implemented every conceivable energy-saving measure. This feels utterly absurd and financially crippling.

As countless residents in both Orange and Rockland Counties I can attest, our delivery charges have consistently seemed disproportionate, particularly when compared to the actual energy consumed. This poses a significant burden on individuals and families, especially on those with fixed or limited incomes. According to research, charges and fees often take up a substantial percentage of the total bill, impacting household budgets drastically.

Orange and Rockland provides power distribution and delivery services in our area. However, the fees for these services should be reasonable and reflect the actual cost of delivery. Overcharges put additional stress on customers, pushing already tight budgets to their limits. Many of us find ourselves making difficult choices between paying our utility bills and purchasing necessities.

We are calling on Orange and Rockland to reevaluate and reduce their delivery charge rates. We implore that they introduce a sliding scale for seniors and low-income households to ensure these charges are proportionate to usage and fair to all. Utilities should not be a major financial burden, particularly in a community known for its resilience and support for one another.

Implementing a fairer delivery charge structure will alleviate financial stress for many residents and increase trust and goodwill towards Orange and Rockland. We ask management to engage with community representatives and discuss the possibility of reducing these fees, as well as consider community feedback in future adjustments. By signing this petition, you are supporting not only a fair pricing model for energy delivery but also the wellbeing of our community.
