Reduce noise levels at children's clubs in holiday parks
Reduce noise levels at children's clubs in holiday parks
The Issue
My daughter has sensory processing disorder and is very sensitive to loud noises. Holidays are supposed to be a time of joy and togetherness for our family, a time when we can relax and bond after working hard throughout the year.
We choose quieter times of the year to visit holiday camps, hoping for an experience where my daughter can participate in fun activities without being overwhelmed by noise. Unfortunately, at children's clubs and discos at Away Resorts, Haven, and Parkdean, the noise levels are often unbearable for her. She eagerly wants to join but is heartbroken, and I am too, because we have to leave as soon as the loud music starts. It not only disrupts her experience but also separates our family, as her younger sister, even while using ear defenders, tries to join in. My husband and daughter end up elsewhere, a division that could be avoided. This takes away from a family holiday where everyone can enjoy together.
Families with children who have sensory processing disorders or similar sensitivities face similar challenges.
It's vital to implement a noise management strategy. Children’s clubs can provide a lower volume setting or even designated "quiet hours" where the noise levels are consciously kept to a minimum. Additional training for staff on sensory sensitivity could further enhance program inclusivity. Technology that allows families to request lowered volume should be employed.
Creating a harmonious environment benefits not only those with specific needs but also improves the experience for all guests. Reduced noise can mean better interaction and enjoyment for families seeking peaceful, yet engaging holidays.
This petition urges holiday camps, specifically Away Resorts, Haven, and Parkdean, to take actionable steps to manage noise levels effectively in their children's clubs and discos. Through responsible noise management, we can ensure all children, regardless of their sensory needs, have the opportunity to enjoy their holidays with their families without the unnecessary barrier of excessive noise.
Please sign this petition to support an empathetic approach to holiday fun and ensure that every family has the opportunity for a truly inclusive holiday experience.
