Reduce Income Tax for Seniors to Zero on CPP and OAS in Canada
Reduce Income Tax for Seniors to Zero on CPP and OAS in Canada
The Issue
I am one of many seniors who struggle to make ends meet due to the heavy tax burden in Canada. For years, I've had to lean on my savings, such as RRSP, or equivalents like 401K in the USA, to cover the tax payments for my spouse. The burden heightened the following year, snowballing into an unmanageable financial situation.
The backbone of our society, seniors who contribute through SSA, CPP, OAS, can barely survive in this harsh economic climate. Yet, the government continues to tax us. It's not just unfair, it borders on criminal.
Consider this, senior citizens aged 65 and above constitute around 16% of Canada’s total population, and this percentage is projected to reach 23% by 2030 (source: Statistics Canada). This group of the population is the most susceptible to financial instability, particularly given the rising living costs.
The ask is simple, yet essential. We request the Canadian government to reduce the income tax on seniors to zero for CPP and OAS. We additionally propose a tax limitation of under 15% on RRSP or other incomes.
This move promises to enhance the quality of life for seniors, allowing us to live with dignity and financial stability in our later years. This is not just about us, but for all Canadians who will one day grow old. We deserve better.
Sign this petition if you believe in a fairer taxation for seniors in Canada. Let's urge the government to act swiftly.
