The Issue

Living in the northern community of Fort St. John, BC, Canada, I have witnessed firsthand the struggles my family, friends, and community are facing due to rising heating costs imposed by Pacific Northern Gas (PNG). These costs are creating an unbearable burden, forcing many to make the impossible choice between keeping their homes warm and putting food on the table. No one should be faced with such a heart-wrenching decision. It's not just wrong; it's entirely unjustified.

The current trajectory of heating cost increases over the next three years threatens our very survival in this frigid climate, where temperatures can plummet to minus 20 degrees Celsius. The reality is stark—turning down the heat in these extreme conditions is not an option. Yet, PNG's lack of accountability and transparency over this massive hike in heating costs leaves us with little choice.

These soaring costs will force residents to seek alternative heating methods, many of which are unsafe and could lead to tragic accidents, including fires and loss of property. The safety and well-being of our community should never be compromised for the sake of profit.

We urge PNG to reconsider its decision and implement a reduction in heating costs. A more balanced approach is needed, one that takes into account the economic realities faced by those living in northern climates and provides a fair solution for everyone involved. We deserve to live with dignity, without the fear of choosing between essential needs.

Join me in demanding PNG lower heating costs immediately and ensure our community's wellbeing is prioritized over corporate profits. No one should have to choose between freezing in their home or going hungry. Sign this petition to make a stand for justice and accountability.
