Living in the Bronx, New York, I have grown to be worried and concerned about the issue of gang violence. For those of us living in this community, the presence of gangs is a reality that affects a lot of our daily lives. The constant news reports about gang activities that are shown through different neighborhoods, leaving us worried for our safety and the safety of our families.

Gang violence in the Bronx is not as low as in other places, sure it has gotten better since back then having decreased a 75% since the 1990's but it is still a significant community problem that requires attention. According to NYPD statistics, the Bronx has one of the highest rates of gang-related crimes in New York City. These crimes not only result in the sad loss of life but also create an environment of fear and insecurity, ignoring the well-being of our community members, particularly people like us who are young.

We want local authorities to take action to address this problem. A lot of solutions could include making the police help the community, helping young people with programs that prevent them joining gangs, and having economic programs to reduce poverty, which often is one of the reasons gang recruitment happens. Helping the community help and collaborate with law the enforcement can also create trust in reducing this problem.
