As a student in Toronto, I am personally experiencing the struggle of meeting the required 840 externship hours. This requirement translates to 35-40 hours per week, which is a daunting task considering the current job market scenario. Many students like me are finding it increasingly difficult to find employers who can provide us with such extensive work hours.

The current requirement not only puts undue pressure on students but also limits our opportunities for learning and growth. It's important to note that according to Statistics Canada, youth unemployment rate was at 17.1% as of July 2021 (source: Statistics Canada). This clearly indicates how challenging it is for students and young professionals to secure jobs.

We propose that Seneca should consider reducing these mandatory externship hours or find alternative ways for us to gain practical experience without compromising our education and well-being.

This change would not only benefit thousands of students struggling like me but also contribute towards creating a more flexible and inclusive educational environment.
