Reduce/eliminate excessive homework for students

Reduce/eliminate excessive homework for students
The Issue
As a parent who shares split custody, my time with my child is incredibly precious and limited. The burdens of everyday life often leave us with fleeting moments to truly connect, relax, and enjoy each other's company. Unfortunately, the overwhelming load of homework my child receives takes a significant toll on these rare opportunities. Hours of assignments not only cut into the little quality time we have but also detract from their ability to explore interests, engage in sports, and simply enjoy the carefree joys of being a kid. Many families in our community face similar challenges, and the pressure of homework impacts both parents and children, causing unnecessary stress and tension.
The damaging effects of excessive homework on a child's well-being, social development, and family dynamics are well-documented. According to research from Stanford University, more than two hours of homework a night can be counterproductive and lead to high levels of stress, physical health problems, and a lack of balance in a student's life. This is not what education is meant to be. Kids need time to learn through play, relax, and decompress after school hours.
We call on educational authorities to reconsider the existing homework policies and implement a more balanced approach that promotes genuine learning and development without overwhelming students and impinging on their personal lives. Instead of hours of repetitive assignments, schools could adopt more efficient learning techniques that encourage critical thinking and creativity, such as project-based learning and flipped classrooms.
Sign this petition to join the growing movement towards a healthier, more balanced approach to education that respects both the academic and personal needs of every child. Together, we can create a system where kids thrive, both in and out of the classroom.
