Redesign the Wisconsin State Flag: It's Embarrassing

Redesign the Wisconsin State Flag: It's Embarrassing

The Issue

The state of Wisconsin has one of the worst flags in the nation, hurting the pride of every resident who has to live with this blemish on our collective dignity.

This petition proposes that the state creates a commission of designers, historians, and community members to come up with an alternative, or finds a talented elementary school student willing to volunteer.  Because let's face it, anyone who spends more than five minutes on Adobe could come up with something better.

To spur interest in flag designs, the authors of this petition have humbly included their own choice of flag below.  The 30 stars represent Wisconsin being the 30th state in the union, and are placed in the shape of a cow in homage to our most important livestock.  The cow rests against a yellow triangle that is subtly evocative of a slice of cheese.  The twin blue stripes are representative of the state's largest lakes, Michigan and Superior.  The white stripes reference many things: the industrial sand and granite that so heavily influence our architecture and historic mining industry; snow; milk;  the color of the mourning dove, the state symbol of peace;  the white icing on kringles, the Wisconsin state pastry.  And, of course, the last stripes are Badger red.  On Wisconsin!
