The Issue

It is already a well known fact that parking on Mount Pleasant is nothing short of a nightmare - for residents this is an extreme inconvenience as you can imagine. there is a single line on the one side of the road so that people can not park and on the other side there is a very limited amount of space;  to add to this as of 13/11/2020 there has now been a large bay marked on the the side of the road that does allow parking, meaning there is now even less space to park for residents to park their cars and nowhere within a reasonable distance to park our cars either.

The parking bay has been put in place for the customers of ' DELIKATESY SYRENKA', this shop being one that already brings nuisance to the area. This shop has came about during my period of time living here and has since then made a drastic effect on the area, as an observation not an assumption i often see customers of said shop being antisocial whether that be shouting, drinking in the street, littering ,pulling up playing music extremely loud music and even occurrences of customers urinating in the alleyway next to the shop- these may seem like a minor thing until you actually live with it and feel your house shaking every ten minutes whilst you try and sleep. It is a weekly occurrence that i have to pick up mounds of litter from the shop that have been littered into my front garden.                        .                                                                                        This can be evidenced.

Us neighbours all get along and the one thing we all come together on is the fact that the parking situation needs to change. Since the new parking bay has been placed there has been such a tension and animosity in the air that is now pulling these relationships apart.

To conclude, it should be noted that introducing this parking bay has not only not changed the traffic situation.. but made it worse!  The street is more congested of an evening than I have seen it in years. Customers of the shop aren't utilising this space and are parking on the side of the road with the yellow line that hasn't got the parking bay still and going in due to what i imagine is either ease or simply laziness, so what was the point of even adding them if they're not getting used? Continuing from this point.. where do you expect the residents to park it is not reasonable to park your car ten minutes away from where you reside especially with the current climate of car related crime in the area - it is not safe or appropriate to do so; so now you have the situation where all of the residents are having to leave their cars on the single yellow and wait for a space to arise when there is literally an empty space available for multiple vehicles but that is now only in use for the shop in which the customers aren't using it anyway!         This can be evidenced.

I know of a number of key workers, NHS workers and other emergency workers that live on this road, and it was only a few weeks ago everyone was singing their praises and doing all they could to help during this current pandemic. where has that now gone? Do you think it is now fair that they have to come home from a 12 hour long shift, exhausted, where nothing has changed in their job but they to now have to literally sit in their car for over an hour (sometimes closer to two) just sat waiting for a space to come up and hope they can get there quick enough to park their car so that they can finally go to sleep before doing it all again. that is not a fictional scenario. that is a common occurrence for myself and other to have to do.If you don't live in this environment you might question why not just park it that ten minute walk away and walk if it takes that long to wait, but you don't understand you now have that anxiety and worry of damage to your car and what could be happening to it in your absence as car crime if so rife in the area, so you can't settle or relax. This was the situation before the parking bay so i can only imagine how this is going to get worse and the wait times even longer.

It was already brought the people attention that this restriction was unwanted, but the residents' voices were ignored- conveying to us we simply are not cared about in the slightest. A one way system or parking permits for residents could be considered, or just simply leaving it how it was, but no they are ignored us and left us to suffer. I have never been so disappointed in my local representatives in all my life of living in Redditch. If they really want to make a difference to the issues on this road. install a speed camera.
