Redcliffe Deserves Better

The issue

Redcliffe is a place our community is proud to call home- known for its beautiful beaches, family-friendly parks, and welcoming public spaces.

However, many of these areas, including our foreshore, parks, showgrounds, and surrounding grassed spaces are currently facing serious and ongoing issues that are impacting the entire community.

Residents and visitors are increasingly encountering:

  • Accumulated rubbish, food waste, and debris
  • Broken glass and hazardous materials, including drug paraphernalia & syringes and other waste hazards
  • Abandoned trolleys and belongings left in public areas
  • Obstructing public spaces and parking areas being occupied long-term, limiting access for others

In addition to these concerns, there have been growing reports of verbal aggression and anti-social behavior, leaving families and visitors feeling unsafe in areas that should be welcoming and accessible to all.

These conditions are:

  • Reducing safe access to parks and beaches
  • Creating health and safety risks, particularly for children
  • Negatively impacting local businesses and tourism
  • Damaging the reputation and pride of our community

We acknowledge that homelessness is a complex issue and requires compassionate, long-term solutions. However, public spaces must remain safe, clean, and accessible for everyone- particularly for the broader community who rely on and contribute to the upkeep of these areas through rates, taxes, and active participation in the community.

Please sign our petition to show that this is not something our community is willing to accept as the new normal. We are calling on The City of Moreton Bay, the Minister for Housing, Kerri-Anne Dooley, QPS, and all decision-makers to act now to restore the safety, cleanliness, and accessibility of our public spaces.
