Saltburn Beach Huts- campaign to speed up waiting lists so more families can enjoy them
Saltburn beach is enjoyed by so many individuals and families, yet the beach huts, which should be brimming with life, sit silent and unused for the most part. Positioned prominently on the front, with stunning views of the sea, they should be used by locals to make memories and make trips to the beach even more joyous. Young families, couples, surfers, individuals needing a break from the hustle and bustle of life and elderly resident should be nipping up from the beach for a short break or camping out for the day. Whatever the case might be, the huts should not be shut up, dormant and under used as they currently are. Tourists are growing in numbers and Saltburn is getting busier. The beach huts offer local families an opportunity to benefit, to be prioritised, particularly at busy times where space on the beach can be difficult to find. To date, only a small number of families have had the opportunity to do this due to the mismanagement of waiting lists. Some of the huts have been in the same family since the 1930s. Those on waiting lists can expect a 20 year wait, desperate to make use of them. This must change. The council needs to listen and a solution found, perhaps limiting the rent term to 12 months per family so that more Saltburn residents can benefit. The current system is unfair and the fact that the beach huts remain shut for most of the time by those who currently rent them while others are desperate for their turn is just plain wrong!
