Increase Security to help Redbridge become a safer place!

Increase Security to help Redbridge become a safer place!

The Issue

Everyone including our loved ones and family deserve to feel safe, and free from the fear of crime and getting hurt.

This is why we are calling for the police and Redbridge Council to put in place measures that will help reduce crime in certain hot spot areas around Ilford where crime, fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour have become the norm.

The people of Ilford, and surrounding areas deserve better and we are calling to all our residents to sign this petition to get our council to take our desperate pleas seriously.

Whilst we appreciate that there were major police cuts in 2010, the council still have a duty of care towards its residents, to play a proactive role in preventing crime.

**Two serious incidents in the same area – Telegraph Mews, Seven Kings**

Recently on 24th November 2019, a young man was stabbed and killed in ‘Telegraph Mews’, a hotspot area known to the residents, police, and the council for its criminal activities, involving drugs and running of an unlicensed club.

The very same area faced a previous serious incident in May 2019, where a masked gunman entered the Seven Kings Mosque discharging a firearm. Thankfully nobody was hurt during this time, however the situation has clearly worsened since.

This area is frequently used by the public, the local business owners and employees. What’s more concerning is the area is heavily populated at certain times by children who study at the mosque and attend local schools.

There are currently no council cameras in the area, despite the two incident’s that have taken place within a short space of time. This is of course unacceptable.

Please sign the petition to send a strong message to the Council that our safety and security must be taken seriously. The Council must install CCTV cameras and increase regular police patrol in the area.

Farnham Drive is close by and also suffering from huge increase in criminal and anti-social behavior. Fly Tipping is a regular pattern that the residents witness everyday, yet nothing is done to eradicate these issues. Criminals know they can easily engage and get away with these unlawful activities within these blind spot areas due to poor policing  and lack of Local Authority cameras.

What we are asking for?

1.   Council owned and managed CCTV cameras in hot spot areas especially at Telegraph Mews;

2.   Police Patrol and Community Support Police within these areas to act as a preventative strategy and deter crime;

3.   Better lighting for crime prevention and safer streets

4.   Early intervention programs to help educate the youth

5.   Residents to be provided bins and strict fines for fly tipping and littering, and regular cleaners on the streets.

We ask our councillors to give an undertaking to address these matters as a priority, and for candidates seeking election, to lend their support.

Yours Sincerely,

Residents, Redbridge
