Well done and thank you to those who attended a protest against Catwalk Pet shop “and rescue” today.
As expected, the shop staff and their friends organised a counter-demo and were hostile towards the peaceful protestors before they had even arrived. Despite the provocation, the protestors acted calmly and responsibly, handing out leaflets and educating members of the public about Catwalk, Lucy’s Law and how to adopt an animal from a legitimate rescue.
Meanwhile, Catwalk Pets played loud music, encouraged the beeping of horns via a rather misleading banner “Activists want to close us down, beep to save your high street!” and their supporters let off air horns and verbally abused the protestors through a megaphone. Given animals were inside the shop and some off-lead near a busy road, the level of noise was irresponsible and the lack of concern and professionalism from Catwalk quite telling.
The protesters were repeatedly approached by shop staff and supporters despite clearly expressing no interest in human conflict. The protest ended with intimidation, threats and being followed through Barkingside high street which required police intervention.
Thank you for your bravery today and for using your voices for the voiceless, and hope you are all safe.
