RBUESD Let Our Children Physically Attend School

RBUESD Let Our Children Physically Attend School
The Issue
RBUESD Announced on Aug. 7th 2020 that the pending start date of school, Aug. 12th 2020 has now been pushed back to Aug. 17th 2020 and no longer will it be "Every Student, Every Day" but will now be distanced learning for the foreseeable future. While we understand the district does not have the funding or capabilities to fund both distance learning and in person classes, We the parents request that in person classes be reinstated.
Our children have been educationally, socially and emotionally made vulnerable since March 2020 when the decision was made to move to distance learning. We understand it was a trying time but after a summer of hardships for working parents having to figure out what to do with their children since summer programs were cancelled, it is now time to take a stand for our children and their well being.
The death rate of Covid 19 on our county is less than 1%. Of the 64,000 people in our county 276 as of this posting have tested positive with a recovery of total of 237. We as parents feel that these numbers justify in person teaching and education.
There are IEP students with special needs who absolutely need to be back in a classroom setting. Students with home issues who need to be protected as well as students who need to be fed!
It is also important to note that working parents cannot effectively participate in distanced learning to the extent the state of CA is requiring for participation and attendance. This is, again, putting undo hardships on parents. We would like our voices to be heard! We want our children to attend in person classes beginning Aug. 17th 2020.
If a parent does not want to send their child to class, they should be allowed to home school and be responsible for their own children's education. This will allow for more teachers to be available for in person classes and allow for students to return to class.
We understand that the funding and splitting of distance learning and in person classes is impossible for the district at this time. We believe that the data collected is not accurate to the majority of parents feelings on this. Before making this decision, the district should have made a better effort to reach out to parents and we are requesting they reconsider and do so.
We are planning a rally on Antelope and Main. Details will be posted for date and time as soon as we have that information.
Let our kids go back to school!
