Reconsider the West 240 Development Project for Sustainable Community Growth

The Issue

Dear Fellow Citizens,

We, the undersigned, are residents of Edmonton-Riverview-Grandview Heights and concerned citizens who value the unique character, natural beauty, and tranquility of our community. We are writing to express our concerns about the proposed West 240 development project by the University of Alberta Properties Trust (UAPT).

The West 240 project proposes to develop a parcel of land located between the communities of Grandview and Lansdowne, and between Whitemud Creek and 122 Street. While we understand the potential benefits of such a development, we believe there are significant issues that need to be reconsidered.

Community Impact: The proposed development, due to its scale and density, could significantly alter the character of our existing neighborhoods. We urge the UAPT and the City of Edmonton to ensure that any development is sensitive to the surrounding communities and maintains the character and tranquility we value.

Traffic Concerns: The potential increase in traffic volumes, particularly on 62 Avenue, is a significant concern. We believe that vehicular access to West 240 should be carefully planned to minimize traffic impacts on existing communities.

Environmental Preservation: The West 240 lands contain valuable natural features and provide a sense of openness that we believe is crucial to preserve. We urge the UAPT to ensure that these features are protected and that public access to Whitemud Creek and the ravine is maintained.

We kindly request that the UAPT and the City of Edmonton reconsider the current plans for the West 240 development. We believe that a more balanced approach, which takes into account the concerns outlined above, can lead to a development that benefits the broader community while preserving the unique character and natural beauty of our neighborhoods.

By signing this petition, we voice our collective concern and request that our voices be heard and considered in the decision-making process for the West 240 development project.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
