Mr. Muhammad, known to many students as “Mr. Mu,” has had a lasting impact on countless students and families throughout the community.

I have already reached out to Barstow administration to share that many former students, alumni, parents, and community members are coming together in support of Mr. Muhammad. My hope is to collect at least 200 signatures to demonstrate just how many lives he has positively impacted over the years and how strongly this community believes in him.

As a former student of his at Shawnee Mission East, I experienced firsthand the support, mentorship, encouragement, and compassion he showed to students both inside and outside the classroom.

Many members of the community were saddened to learn of his termination from The Barstow School following reports that he helped support students organizing a peaceful protest. Regardless of differing opinions surrounding the situation, many former students, parents, alumni, and community members believe his years of positive impact and dedication to students deserve to be recognized and considered.

More than a decade later, former students still speak about the confidence, guidance, and sense of belonging Mr. Muhammad helped create. Educators who make students feel seen, supported, and empowered leave a lasting impact far beyond academics.

This petition is intended to respectfully ask The Barstow School to reconsider its decision and listen to the voices of the many students and community members whose lives were positively impacted by Mr. Muhammad.
