Reconsider the new student parking system at Spring-Ford High School
The Issue
I believe the previous assigned parking lot system was organized, fair, and effective, and I am asking other students who share these concerns to sign this petition.
For years, parking passes have been assigned to specific lots, and that system has worked well. It kept parking organized, reduced confusion, and ensured students knew exactly where they were supposed to park. I don’t understand why a system that has been successful for so long is being replaced with a first-come, first-served approach.
One of the biggest concerns is how this change will affect seniors, especially those with late arrival due to senior privilege. By the time they arrive at school, many of the closest spaces will likely already be taken. Seniors who have waited four years for the opportunity to park in the senior lot may instead be forced to park across the street or in less convenient locations simply because they arrive later.
Many students have spent years looking forward to senior parking. After waiting throughout high school, it is disappointing to feel like that opportunity is being taken away.
I am also concerned that identical parking passes without designated lots will make parking enforcement more difficult. Assigned lots made it easier to identify vehicles parked where they didn’t belong. A universal parking pass system could make it easier for unauthorized or counterfeit passes to go unnoticed, creating additional challenges for staff.
Additionally, a first-come, first-served system may create unnecessary stress each morning. Students may feel pressured to arrive much earlier just to find a decent parking space, increasing traffic, competition for spots, and frustration before the school day even begins.
I respectfully ask the administration to reconsider this decision or clearly explain the reasoning behind the change and how concerns about fairness, senior privileges, and enforcement will be addressed.
If you agree that the assigned parking lot system should be reinstated or reconsidered, please sign below.
