For those of us with children in Harford County Public Schools, we understand the importance of having a Superintendent who is dedicated to the success and well-being of every student. As a concerned parent, I am compelled to bring attention to the fact that Dr. Gerringer is not the best candidate for the position of Superintendent of Harford County Public Schools (HCPS).

Throughout my experience with the local school system, I have witnessed a significant lack of care and consideration for special needs students and any student who has additional needs. The handling of bullying has been severely inadequate. These issues have left me deeply concerned for the safety and personal development of our children.

The role of a Superintendent is crucial in setting the tone and direction for a school district. It requires an individual who understands the complexities of educational leadership and is truly committed to fostering an inclusive environment for all students. Special needs education is not just a checklist; it requires genuine understanding and commitment. Simply put, our students deserve better.

In recent years, Harford County has made strides in improving educational outcomes; however, these achievements mean little if we fail to support our most vulnerable students effectively. A comprehensive and empathetic approach to bullying prevention and support for students with additional needs must be prioritized. It's not just about policies but about creating a supportive culture that nurtures every child's potential.

Our schools need a Superintendent who will actively listen to parents' concerns, understand the nuances of special education, and implement effective anti-bullying strategies. We need leadership that is transparent and that works collaboratively with the community to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed in a safe and nurturing environment.

We urge the Harford County Board of Education to reconsider the candidacy of Dr. Gerringer for this pivotal role. Let's advocate for a Superintendent who truly values and prioritizes each student's unique needs and contributes positively to the improvement of our school system.
