The Issue

Recently, there was a massive warehouse fire just steps away from our homes and close to the schools our children attend in Ontario, California. While we were fortunate the fire didn't spread further, the event exposed the significant risk of having such a large industrial warehouse storing combustible materials in close proximity to residential neighborhoods.

My home is located near the warehouse that recently caught fire. Although our house did not catch fire, our lives were greatly impacted. We were incredibly fortunate there was no strong wind blowing that day, as the outcome could have been far more disastrous. My children were forced to inhale unhealthy air as thick smoke filled our neighborhood. The falling ash damaged the exterior of our home, and the pervasive smell of smoke inside our home severely affected my child, who suffers from asthma.

This ordeal emphasized to our family the need for greater caution and consideration in planning large-scale industrial facilities near where people live. Many residents in our community share this concern, fearing for the safety of our families, homes, and schools.

We therefore plead with the city leaders in Ontario, California, to thoughtfully reconsider the idea of rebuilding this warehouse in the same location. We need a thorough evaluation to explore safer alternatives that ensure the protection and well-being of our communities. This involves reviewing zoning laws, conducting safety assessments, and perhaps relocating the warehouse to a more industrially suitable area away from homes and schools.

It is crucial to prioritize the health and safety of Ontario's residents and future-proof our neighborhoods against such hazards. We call upon decision-makers to take our concerns into account and take the necessary actions to avert future risks.

Please sign this petition to send a powerful message to the city leaders that our community's safety and health come first. Together, we can advocate for a safer living environment for our families and future generations.
