The Issue

Trigg Kiser's tragic drowning death has left an indelible mark on many in our community. According to publicly released investigative records, law enforcement concluded that Trigg was able to access an unfenced swimming pool while unsupervised for a period of time. This revelation, sorrowfully, suggests a preventable tragedy that many believe should have been averted. Investigators reportedly recommended a felony child abuse charge based on their findings, acknowledging the seriousness of the lapse in supervision.

The decision to pursue criminal charges is never to be taken lightly; however, the initial recommendation for a felony child abuse charge by investigators cannot be overlooked. Prosecutors, for unspecified reasons, later declined to file these charges. This decision has left many community members and the broader public questioning whether justice, in this case, has been adequately served.

It is essential for the integrity and trust in our legal system that any decision not to prosecute in cases involving the preventable death of a child is thoroughly explained to the public. We believe this transparency is for a community seeking reassurance that such calamitous are appropriately addressed.

We, the concerned individuals, urge the appropriate authorities to reconsider their decision not to pursue criminal charges or, at the very least, provide a fuller public explanation of the decision-making process involved. By doing so, we can move forward in understanding and healing, knowing that all possible actions to prevent future tragedies have been considered.
