The Issue

Graduating from university is a significant achievement and a cherished milestone in every student's life. At the School of Allied Healthcare and Sciences at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), students dedicate years of hard work and perseverance aiming towards this moment. However, the decision to limit the convocation ceremony exclusively to PhD scholars and rank holders deprives many students of the rightful celebration of their academic journey.

According to the University Grants Commission regulations (2008, Clause 4.4), all students should receive timely recognition of their degrees. This regulatory expectation underscores the importance of celebrating educational achievements promptly and fairly. By excluding a majority of students from participating in the convocation, the university is inadvertently affecting their sense of closure and accomplishment. Convocation is not only a symbolic event but also a crucial part of student life that provides recognition and marks a new beginning as they step into their professional careers.

Numerous studies highlight the positive impact of recognition ceremonies on student morale and community spirit. Convocations serve as a platform to honor the dedication and commitment that each student has demonstrated. Denying this opportunity can lead to feelings of neglect and devaluation among students who have equally worked hard to attain their degrees.

We propose that the university administration consider including all graduating students in the convocation ceremony. This action will align with the UGC guidelines, promoting a cohesive and inclusive academic environment. It will also strengthen the university's reputation for fostering fairness and inclusivity.

We urge the university authorities to promptly address this issue and reconsider the current convocation policy to extend participation to all graduating students. Your support in signing this petition will help ensure that every student receives the recognition they deserve. Together, we can advocate for a fair and inclusive convocation ceremony that celebrates the achievements of every student, upholding the spirit of education and community. Please sign this petition to make a positive change for all JAIN University graduates.
