The Issue
My child, along with many others, has been using the taxi service to travel to Delhi Public School, East of Kailash. As a parent, I’ve witnessed firsthand the comfort and safety this mode of transportation provides. The direct routes offered by taxis not only ensure a shorter travel time for our children but also allow them to have a more flexible pick-up and drop-off schedule.
Recently, we've been informed about a proposed shift from taxis to buses for student transportation. While changes can sometimes be beneficial, this sudden transition raises concerns about the practicality and safety aspects it might entail. The neighborhood roads in East of Kailash are bustling, and the flexibility taxis offer has helped avoid peak times and congested routes, crucial points that could affect the safety and punctuality of our children's journey.
Moreover, many families have formed strong connections with the current taxi drivers, individuals who treat our children with great care and have become a trusted part of their daily routine. The introduction of a bus system could disrupt these valuable relationships and eliminate the sense of security that has been established over time.
There are also economic considerations. Many of the taxi drivers rely on these routes for their livelihoods. Transitioning to buses may take this source of income away from dedicated individuals who have served our community admirably.
We acknowledge the school’s intent to possibly streamline transportation by shifting to buses, but we urge the administration to consider a more inclusive approach. One possible solution could be to offer a choice to parents between maintaining the existing taxi arrangements or opting into the new bus service. This would allow families to select the option that best suits their needs without completely uprooting the current system.
In the interest of the students’ safety, the community's livelihood, and the parents’ peace of mind, we kindly urge Delhi Public School, East of Kailash, to reconsider this abrupt decision. I believe that maintaining both options will serve to enhance the integrity of the community and the wellbeing of our children.
