Reconfigure the Veterans Health Administration as an Independent Governmental Organization

The Issue

As a veteran myself, I have firsthand experience with the Veterans Health Administration. I have seen how political appointees, rather than healthcare leaders, run the system, often prioritizing their agendas over cultivating a functional healthcare system for the ones who have served.

It is high time we consider moving the Veterans Health Administration from under the direct authority of the executive branch of the US Government. What I am proposing is for the Veterans Health Administration to be reconfigured as a standalone organization. A model similar to the United States Postal Service (USPS) can be adapted where the organization operates independently yet remains accountable to Congress.

The Veterans Health Administration provides healthcare to nearly 9 million veterans a year, that's about 6.5% of the U.S. adult population (VA, 2022). When you consider these figures, it becomes even more essential to create a robust and efficient healthcare system not swayed by political influences. A healthcare system that balances the well-being of veterans and fiscal management is the need of the hour.

Making this change would not only improve the quality and timeliness of care for our veterans but also work towards a healthcare environment free from the constrains and whims of executive actions. We want our Veterans Health Administration to be run by healthcare and business professionals who can guide the organization towards thriving health outcomes.

This transition is not just important to me personally, but it is essential to every veteran in our country. Let's stand together and make a decisive change for a better and more accountable Veterans Health Administration. Please sign this petition.
