Recommend Ahmed Al Ahmed for the Cross of Valor

The issue

We, the undersigned, urgently request the award of the Cross of Valour (CV) to Mr. Ahmed al Ahmed for his extraordinary and selfless bravery during the terrorist attack at Bondi Beach on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

The Act of Courage

In a moment of extreme peril, while shots were being fired and innocent lives were being lost, Mr. al Ahmed did not retreat. He made a conscious, heroic choice to charge the armed gunman, tackling him from behind and forcibly wrestling the high-powered rifle from his control.

This action was performed by an unarmed citizen, with no experience in firearms, who deliberately placed himself in the direct line of danger to save strangers. His intervention broke the momentum of the attack, disarmed a murderer, and undeniably prevented further casualties. He was subsequently shot twice and gravely injured, confirming the extreme peril he willingly faced.

The Justification

The Cross of Valour is Australia's highest civilian honour, reserved for "acts of conspicuous courage in circumstances of extreme peril." Mr. Ahmed al Ahmed's actions meet this standard absolutely. His deed was a profound act of moral fortitude and physical bravery—a demonstration of the finest human spirit in the face of terror.

We petition that Mr. Ahmed al Ahmed be immediately nominated and awarded the Cross of Valour to formally and permanently honour the man who risked everything for the safety of all Australians.
