Recognize Redheads as a Protected Minority Group

The Issue

I write this petition as a redhead who has been forced to contend with isolation, bullying, physical abuse simply for having been born with the "ginger" genetic mutation.

I am not alone in this experience as those of us with this physical characteristics have throughout history and into the current era, been the targets of denigrating phrases such as the commonly heard colloquial tribute to mockery, "beat you like a redheaded stepchild" or the common trope that redheads do not have souls.

Constituting less than 2% of the U.S. population, redheads grace every ethnic group across the country. Yet, as we bear an immutable physical characteristic we have throughout history been made to suffer at the hands of others as a result.

In standing up against these injustices, I compel the government of the United States of America to rise above the prejudice and officially recognize redheads as a protected minority group. By doing so, we take the first step to correcting a longstanding narrative of discrimination and abuse that surrounds us is acceptable - simply due to the color of our hair.

Together, we can promote a more inclusive and respectful society, one that recognizes and respects our uniqueness, rather than belittling and abusing us for it.

We need to affirm the rights of redheads to equal treatment and protection under the law.

Every signature brings us one step closer to breaking down barriers of misunderstanding and bias.

Please sign this petition and stand with us in solidarity for change.
