Recognize Emergency Medical Services as an Essential Service in Kentucky

The Issue

Recently, a neighboring EMS agency was shut down. Now, their community is left with no one to call for help during medical emergencies. Where is 911? We’re sorry, they’re closed. What a nightmare!

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are the backbone of any community's response to life-threatening situations. They provide immediate care and transportation for critically ill or injured people, often making the difference between life and death.

In Kentucky alone, there are over 20,000 EMS professionals who respond to more than half a million calls each year (Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services). Yet despite this critical role they play in our society, EMS is not recognized as an essential service by the government.

This lack of recognition puts our communities at risk. When an EMS agency shuts down - like what happened in our Mercer County recently, it leaves citizens without immediate access to vital emergency medical care.

We cannot wait for another tragedy before we act. It's time that we recognize the importance of these brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day to save ours.

By recognizing EMS as an essential service, we can ensure stable funding and support for these agencies so they can continue providing their lifesaving services without interruption or fear of closure.

Let's stand together and demand that Emergency Medical Services be recognized as an essential service in Kentucky. Sign this petition today!
