During the MGMB's field season in the fall semester, the band had to use the front lawn of Venice High School which is not safe for marching. The field has many holes and is very bumpy & muddy, during the season multiple people have tripped in a hole or fell into mud because the school refuses to fix the field for the band. This school has the facilities to accommodate for this issue, yet does not offer it to us & makes the band use the field. Parents have emailed administration including the principal, yet they do not heed our calls.

The Mighty Gondolier Marching Band, Concert Band, Choir, and other arts programs play a crucial role in fostering creativity and community among students. Studies have shown that participation in the arts can improve academic performance and social skills (source: Americans for the Arts). Yet these programs frequently lack adequate support and recognition from school administrations. These programs do not get the proper funding needed to make students incredible musicians, this is seen in other schools who have way better musicians because of their funding.

We urge LAUSD and the Venice High School administration to prioritize arts education by ensuring events like ours are given equal importance as other school activities. There is no point in having an arts program if they will not support it. Sign this petition to demand that LAUSD & the VHS administration acknowledges and supports our vibrant arts community!
