As one of 4 circus performers in my family, I strongly agree that Circus Arts should be considered an official art form by the NEA. The Circus Arts brings together dance, music, visual art and partners those things with great athleticism to create an extremely captivating art form for both young and old. The Circus Arts are both educational and entertaining. They offer both a physical and creative outlet for performers from a variety of backgrounds.
I hope that the NEA can appreciate these facts about Circus Arts and make it an official art form.
As a yoga instructor and a new circus practitioner, I’m learning about circus and how it changes lives. It changed my life. I see how a lot of people young and old involved in other arts are transitioning to circus arts and have never look back including myself. Circus is a powerful art form, a skill for the youth, life for adults and therapy for elderly . There is 94 yr retired teacher who I see every Monday and all he talks about is circus. He said, “I love this stuff Bear, this is what keeps he alive.”
I’ve watched these students rebuild this program from the ground up. They had little support and no one paid them any of the respect they deserved. You should see them now. They’ve worked harder than many people can fathom. This being ripped away from them, especially so suddenly, is one of the most unfair things I’ve witnessed thus far. This is not what their program or these people deserve. Please help us help them.
I care about this issue because art has helped me with mental struggles. I'm currently in band, and am the #1 trumpet player, and it helps me a lot. It's also very important to society, and is a way a lot of people make money, and a way entertainment is created. Art also fuels creativity, and kids like me everyday.
