As a resident of Highbridge Somerset, I am asking that our town council give recognition to the late Dr Walter Robert Hadwen MRCS MRCP.

Dr Hadwen lived in Highbridge in 1878 where he owned and ran a successful pharmacy business for 10 years before leaving to studying medicine.. 

 He was an English general practitioner, pharmaceutical chemist and writer. He was president of the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV, now Cruelty Free International)

BUAV are the founders of the 'Leaping Bunny', the bunny that can be found on products not tested on animals .....It is used extensively by Marks and Spencer, Waitrose, Garnier, Aldi, Primark, Avon cosmetics and many many more 

In 1970, Cruelty Free International founded the Dr Hadwen Trust in his memory , which became the UK’s leading non-animal medical research charity ....today it is know as Animal Free Research UK.

He deserves to be recognised here in Highbridge...
