The Issue

Imagine facing the daunting reality of undergoing a full-mouth extraction of your teeth, knowing that your only options are to live toothlessly or undergo expensive dental implant surgery. This is my reality. Due to bone loss, dentures are not feasible for me, leaving dental implants as my only choice for maintaining oral health and overall wellbeing. Yet, with costs ranging from $25,000 to $60,000, these life-changing implants are financially out of reach.

Oral health is not merely a cosmetic luxury; it is integral to our overall health. Poor oral health can lead to heart disease, severe digestive problems, and malnutrition, affecting every aspect of the body. For those of us who cannot opt for dentures, having accessible and affordable dental implant options can mean the difference between life and death.

Currently, dental implants are often categorized as elective, which strips many individuals of the chance to receive necessary care. This classification must change now, especially for patients who have medically relevant conditions that make dentures impossible. They should be recognized as a medically necessary treatment so individuals like myself can have accessible options to maintain our health.

We urge health authorities and policy-makers to reclassify dental implants as medically necessary for patients who cannot use dentures due to medical conditions. Such a critical change would allow financial coverage through insurance and make these essential treatments attainable for everyone in need.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for a future where oral health treatments are accessible to all who require them, not just those who can afford them. Help us push for this necessary reclassification, allowing people like me a chance at a healthier, more dignified life. Please sign and share to bring awareness and necessary change.
