Reclaim Rocket City Pride: Demand Accountability and New Leadership
The Issue
UPDATE Two of the board members sent in their resignations to the board on May 18th, 2025. After the "Community Meeting" RCP held, Mallory Hagan made the statement that the Log Cabin Republicans- a known hate group- were still "gay" and had a right to be at pride and spread their anti-trans messaging. We as a community are still asking for a full removal of the remaining board members.

To the LGBTQIA+ Community of Huntsville and Surrounding Areas,
We, the undersigned, call for the immediate removal of all current board members of Rocket City Pride (RCP) due to their failure to uphold the values of inclusivity, accountability, and community trust.
Over the past six months, the RCP board has repeatedly ignored the concerns of the very people they claim to represent. This failure came to a head when they allowed the Log Cabin Republicans—an organization known for its history of anti-trans rhetoric and alignment with policies that harm our community—to table at Rocket City Pride. When confronted with valid concerns, the board did not engage in meaningful dialogue, take accountability, or make efforts to repair the harm caused. Instead, they doubled down, dismissing the voices of the trans community and its allies.
This betrayal of trust has been compounded by instances of board members actively bullying and silencing local LGBTQIA+ advocates who dared to speak out. Leadership should foster an environment where all community members feel safe and heard—not one where concerns are met with hostility and gaslighting.
From RCP's own website they claim: "The purpose of Rocket City Pride Inc. is to create a social atmosphere for those that identify as a sexual or gender minority and their allies, so that we may create a more unified community within the Tennessee Valley area." They have tremendously failed and let down their community.
Rocket City Pride belongs to the community, not just a select few in positions of power. It is imperative that the board reflects the values of transparency, inclusivity, and dedication to the well-being of the entire LGBTQIA+ population of Huntsville and beyond. The current leadership has demonstrated that they are unfit to serve in this capacity.
In response, we are calling for a community-led process to select an interim leadership team that will oversee the nomination and election of a new, accountable board. A community meeting will be held where all interested and impacted members of the LGBTQIA+ community can participate in shaping the future of Rocket City Pride.
We urge everyone who believes in a Pride organization that genuinely represents its people to sign this petition. Let’s work together to rebuild Rocket City Pride into an organization that serves, uplifts, and listens to all members of our community—especially those most marginalized.
The members we are calling for an immediate resignation from the board are:
Alisha Webster - Treasurer
Pete Cossaboon
Brandon Edwards
Mallory Hagan
Victoria Johnson- Williamson
Alli Hartley
Torian Blackburn

the above was never met with a response to the communities' input form. Countless people have tried contacting RCP via emails on their website, DMing on social medias, and we have been met with silence and posts on facebook that don't allow comments.
They will delete any comments from concerned community members but left transphobic comments from the Log Cabin Republicans for days on end.
After pridefest, a local drag queen who was fired for being a teacher because of hate groups like the LCR, had a fundraiser for her documentary about being targeted by far-right media. Rocket City Pride shared this fundraiser- where the direct link went to the Log Cabin Republicans page and not the actual fundraiser. No accountability or apology for this was issued.
