The Issue

Austin neighbors, immediate action is required. Your taxes and your travel woes will  be substantially increased by Project Connect light rail project unless we push back now!

Project Connect is an expensive, inefficient and disruptive light rail project that serves a relatively limited area (less than 10 miles) in the central city, fails to enhance transportation options for most Austinites, and doesn’t serve the airport at all.

Despite these major deficiencies, current cost projections for Project Connect are $724 million per mile. This amounts to $249,000 per daily rider. It is predicted (by its proponents!) to reduce miles traveled by the equivalent of only 1 of every 2278 cars on the road (.004%) and to reduce emissions by only .04 of 1 per cent. It will be operative no sooner than 2033, possibly later depending on the length and frequency of construction delays.

Many homes will be severely affected by noise and vibration, many businesses will be disrupted or eliminated by the prolonged construction process, our Mexican free tail bat population is put at risk, and some residences will be effectively “taken” due to dramatic diminution of their market value.

Please use this opportunity to oppose the ill-advised Project Connect before it’s too late by signing this petition. Under federal law, comments to the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) are due on or before March 10.
