There is a major setback for service providers and salons residing in these states due to cosmetology licensure. In order for stylists to transfer their license from OH to KY or vice versa they must complete written and practical exams. This process for application, verification of eligibility, completion of examination and receiving state license can take 4-9 months. Even while both states require the same amount of hours in school (1500hrs.) with almost identical testing requirements. The state’s current systems do not support stylists making a move to live or work in the alternate state. Their practices are out of date and unnecessary.

Moving forward we are advocating for reciprocity between these states. This will to benefit service providers with a successful work life, salons with state licensed professionals and the state with a thriving source of economy. None of the above parties are served by the current systems in place. The 4-9 month waiting period is derailing careers and the economy of the state. Please advocate for the beauty industry professionals by signing this petition to have reciprocity between Ohio and Kentucky for Cosmetology, Esthiology, Nails And Massage Therapy State licenses.
