In many middle and high schools across the nation, and in Pentucket, there is no recess period. Some students are highly energetic, others have a hard time focusing in class. Sometimes, teachers find it difficult to make their students calm down, or to make their students pay attention. 

If recess continues to be absent from the school, these problems will never be fixed. If a recess period is added, these problems will be significantly impacted. Studies show that in a group of fifth-grade students, the amount of class time spent on-task increases by about 30% after recess. Other studies show that recess offers the perfect time for energetic students to get their energy out. Teachers would have much easier jobs, and students would learn more if a recess period is incorporated in the school schedule.

Many students, especially ones with bad grades, are heading through the years with bad expectations of their future lives. These students find it difficult to do things that, realistically, should be easy to do in a classroom. If action is taken urgently, then many students would find it easier to do their work, and their grades would improve. If you are reading this as a school authority, then please take action where you can.
