An adaptation at the end of the day should not be a difficult ask, essentially you just need to copy and paste. Yet time and time again we have seen them fail leaving us dissatisfied. I don't want to wonder what could have been like with the Death Note movie, or confused and upset like with the Halo show. An award winning franchise such as Borderlands, doesn’t deserve the same treatment. Understandably tweaks need to be made when adapting, putting every little detail from a game into a movie would make it way too long. But that shouldn’t stop a company from being able to simply summarize a plot that received fanfare to begin with. The drastic change in plot from the original story is both unnecessary and confusing, especially given the original story is what brought its fans in general. The story of the Borderlands movie should be rewritten to resemble the original much more. Truly professional writers should be able to fill the downtime with story plot that corresponds with the original. The story given in the movie trailers and on the webpages summary seems uninspired. It does not give any indication that anyone played through the material Lionsgate attempts to adapt here. To save the movie a rewrite is desperately needed, however with that a recasting is also needed. To fit the mold of the original plot, a complete reconstruction of cast has to be done. All actors selected for the Borderlands movie are incredible and accomplished, however it only takes a glance to understand they are not fit for their roles. Some main characters outright shouldn’t even be in a movie detailing the events of Borderlands one. This movie can be saved with a complete overhaul and more attention to detail. Fans would be ok with waiting for a finished product as long as the proper work and research is put in, especially with the negative feedback so far from this finished product being overwhelming.
