The Issue
As residents, taxpayers, and concerned citizens of Eureka, Missouri, we are calling for accountability, transparency, and adherence to ethical governance following the May 20, 2025, City Council vote to adopt Legends Parkway as a public road.
The Problem:
All residents are entitled to be represented by individuals we can trust to execute their duties in a fair, informed, and ethical manner, regardless of the issue in front of them. Unfortunately, the events leading up to and including the May 20th vote on the Legends Parkway demonstrate many aldermen's disregard for their duties.
Evidence suggests that several members of the council intentionally:
Acted in Secrecy
Failed to inform all residents of the proposal,
Refused to provide an opportunity for city-wide public input,
Misled the small number of informed residents to believe the measure could not pass with only 4 aldermen eligible to vote, encouraging them not to appear for the vote
Misrepresented the Costs to Taxpayers
Failed to conduct due diligence into the short- and long-term costs of fixing and maintaining the Parkway,
Failed to secure an evaluation or bid from any credible source
Violated Conflict of Interest Statutes
The Mayor and two aldermen live in the Legends and will receive a financial benefit by the City adopting the Parkway, creating a conflict of interest.
The aldermen originally recused themselves from the issue, rendering the measure impassable,
In a surprise move, reinstated themselves to vote on May 20, without advance notice to the public. See Mo. Rev. Stat. 105.452
Deceived Residents
The Mayor assured Ashton Woods residents that the measure would not be voted on if resident feedback opposed the adoption of the Parkway.
Despite documented opposition by the majority of residents consulted, the vote was called and the aldermen representing those residents (the same aldermen with a conflict of interest) voted in favor of it.
We, the undersigned, demand that the City Council:
Rescind the May 20, 2025 vote to adopt Legends Parkway.
Conduct an independent, professional evaluation of the repair and long-term maintenance costs of the Parkway.
Make all financial data and projected impacts public.
Hold a public forum allowing community input prior to any new vote.
Ensure that any future vote on this matter excludes all officials with a statutory conflict of interest.
Take no further action on the Allenton Bridge until all information is presented.
We are not against progress—we are against backroom politics, government waste, and unethical behavior. Eureka deserves better. We demand decision-making that reflects integrity, transparency, and the true will of the people.
Sign below to call for ethical governance and a transparent, fair process.
