As a person deeply affected by the ineffectiveness of our sitting parliament, I urge my fellow citizens to support this appeal. We, the people of Maldives, particularly those of us in Malé, have been struggling for decades to find decent shelter. The government's apathy is evident when instead of prioritising the issues plaguing the common man, they are focusing on their own interests.

Our current parliament members do not work in favour of the constitution which they are supposed to represent. They have lost sight of the very purpose for which they were elected - to serve the people. In the world's 20th smallest country, we are grappling with housing problems that are thought to be characteristic of larger, more populous nations. This is not acceptable!

According to reports from local news outlets, thousands of residents of Malé continue to live in congested living conditions due to the lack of affordable housing options, negating the fundamental rights of its citizens to secure shelter. The government has not taken necessary actions to combat this ongoing issue. This situation amplifies the growing disconnect between our elected representatives and the interests of the public.

We need to hold our MPs accountable for their actions, or lack thereof, and this petition aims precisely to do that. It's time to recall our parliament members and demand a higher standard of dedication, focus and effort towards the welfare of all citizens of Maldives.
