Living in Burnley, Queens Park Skate Park is the closest safe space for me to enjoy skateboarding. Unfortunately, the current facility is made entirely of metal, presenting multiple hazards that limit its usability. Metal skate ramps become wet due to condensation at night, making them slippery and dangerous to use. Furthermore, during the sunny hours, the metal heats up, risking burns to anyone attempting to practice their tricks.

Concrete surfaces offer a more practical alternative. They remain much safer, regardless of the time of day or weather conditions. Concrete doesn't cool down or heat up as metal does, eliminating the risks of slips from moisture and burns from heat. Importantly, concrete surfaces provide a smoother skateboarding experience, reducing the chances of trips and falls—making it less painful for everyone, whether a first-timer or seasoned skater.

The local skate community in Burnley is growing, and with Queens Park being the most accessible park to many, upgrading to concrete would mean a safer environment for enthusiasts to practice and hone their skills without fear of injury. Moreover, the only other nearby skate park is located in a notably unsafe area, where several individuals I know have faced robbery and damage to personal property.

Considering the importance of accessible recreational spaces, especially for those of us who cannot afford transportation to far off skate parks, replacing the current metal park with a concrete one at Queens Park isn’t just an upgrade; it's a necessary investment for our community's safety and development.
