Reassess the Registration Fees for Ontario's College of Early Childhood Educators

The Issue

As Future Early Childhood Educators (ECE) in Ontario, we are acutely aware of the significant role we play in nurturing young children's development and education. Our work contributes substantially to the well-being of families and communities across our province. However, many ECEs grapple with modest wages and financial constraints, despite the critical nature of our work.

The current registration fee for the College of Early Childhood Educators is $160 - a considerable burden for many RECEs who already contend with financial pressures and limited resources. This fee not only poses a barrier to entry but also hampers professional development within our field.

It is important to note that this issue is not unique to Ontario. Across Canada, early childhood educators are often undervalued financially despite their crucial role in society. According to a 2017 report by The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, ECE wages were found to be among the lowest in Canada (Source: Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives).

We believe it is time that this issue be addressed head-on by reassessing these registration fees. By doing so, we can ensure that those dedicated individuals who choose this vital profession are not deterred or hindered by financial barriers.

We call on those responsible at Ontario's College of Early Childhood Educators to reevaluate these fees and consider a more equitable structure that reflects both the value we provide as educators and respects our economic realities.

Please sign this petition if you support fairer registration fees for registered early childhood educators in Ontario.
