The Baby Boomer generation and older know well what kind of daily persecution that gay and lesbian human beings endured.

  Yet, to those in their nineties or now all deceased or forever closeted, the German survivors of the Lambda patch left the camps to return to prisons in either "free" West Germany or "Communist" East Germany.

   Whether in the German Federal or Democratic Republic, the crime of "homosexuality" was not abolished until a quarter century after the war. Why so? The homophobes who tolerated gays and lesbians during the Cabaret days of the Twenties, were loathe to change the laws. The Nazis rid themselves of Ernst Roehm and the gay element, and the right wing homophobes added populations to the concentration camps and closed every gay venue.

Pledge to read or view the Paragraph 175 documentary. If possible, find the section of the Holocaust Museum where the Lambda victims are depicted.

Passive resistance or apathy in our community is not new. The strong gay presence in Berlin pre-Hitler was an illusion....since the laws were not changed.

Those who do not learn from history, are DOOMED to repeat it.
