Re-release Justin Bieber: Never Say Never 3D in theatres and on 3D Blu-ray.

Re-release Justin Bieber: Never Say Never 3D in theatres and on 3D Blu-ray.
The issue
In 2011, the film Justin Bieber: Never Say Never 3D was released in theatres by Paramount Pictures.
The film became known for its energetic, dazzling concert sequences and soon became the highest grossing concert film of all time, grossing just shy of $100 million USD, the box office success was so immense that Paramount released an alternate "Directors Fan Cut" in theatres only three weeks later.
This film is iconic not only for its imaginative telling of Justin's story and music scenes, but also the way it changed the film industry at the time resulting in 3D concert films from other artists such as One Direction and Katy Perry.
Despite this, Paramount have never released the film on 3D Blu-ray, but have instead issued 3D Blu-ray editions for many other films in their library, for example the Katy Perry film. Since 2011, there remains no way to watch this film in 3D.
I come today to share some points and pitch a re-release (perhaps even a 4K remaster) for this film, the highest grossing concert film of all time.
Here is a short list of points:
- In 2022, Justin was forced to cancel concerts worldwide due to health issues, this disappointed many fans who waited years and through COVID delays to see him, the cancellation of his tour was devastating for millions of people. A Never Say Never 3D re-release gives fans the opportunity to come together and have a concert experience in theatres.
- The film represents a time in Justin's life that is nostalgic for many people who grew up with him and would present an opportunity for many people who became fans later to experience this film the way it was intended to be seen.
- Stopping its box office run at $99 million dollars, it would be a great opportunity to push the box office even further, easily bringing in more millions from fans who would buy tickets immediately.
- Next year, Justin is turning 30 years old, it would be the perfect time to re-release to celebrate his birthday.
- I understand the 3D Blu-ray format is almost entirely dead, but the 3D VR market is doing well, a way to watch this film at home in the 3D format would be appreciated by so many fans.
- This film is directed by Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, Step Up 3D, In The Heights, G.I. Joe: Retaliation), it is such a shame for the only way to see this film to be in 2D, a huge departure from his vision as a director, this film was designed around the 3D experience and is one of the most immersive 3D experiences in cinematic history, now only available in 2D.
Seeing this film in theatres was such a special experience for millions of people, the connection of being around other fans, the sound design, the high fidelity of the image, this film is a cinematic experience that should be experienced on the biggest screen, with the biggest sound possible.
Personally, I think a limited run in IMAX 3D would be my dream, I have personally chased the idea of this film being screened again in 3D for over 12 years now, with a lot of correspondence with cinemas that have contacted Paramount directly, who advised they would only re-release it if there was high attendance expected and showings in many different cities.
I think if the fans all show their support, hopefully with some added publicity from Justin or his team, we can easily get enough people to convince Paramount Pictures to do this for us.
After all, I think we deserve it given the series of let-downs of these past few years have provided between tour delays and tour cancellations, COVID-19 and seeing Justin go through his health struggles, these 3D screenings being a success can show Justin and his team that we understand and support him taking some time off, but we still are here, for the music, for him and we will be here when he feels ready to return.
The countries that suffered cancellations should be prioritized for a re-release, if Paramount Pictures will do this for us, the people most affected should come first, these countries are as follows:
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Chile
- Argentina
- Brazil
- Japan
- Netherlands
- England
- Spain
- France
- Ireland
- Germany
- Italy
- India
- Indonesia
- Philippines
- South Africa
Paramount will also benefit from releasing a 3D film in these markets as they are all markets where 3D screens are still active and 3D is still popular.
A limited release in the US/Canada and the rest of the world would be great too for people to celebrate this film and get it over the $100 million dollars in box office revenue.
Australia and Japan are the last remaining markets producing 3D Blu-ray discs, if Universal can release The Bad Guys, Minions and Sing 2 on 3D Blu-ray in Australia, can Paramount please release a limited amount of Justin Bieber: Never Say Never 3D on 3D Blu-ray in that market?
RandomSpaceMedia are currently producer of new 3D Blu-ray discs in Australia, it would be great to have a conversation with them regarding the possibility of this.
My wishlist here (in order of importance) is:
- A 3D Theatrical re-release. (Bring back the limited edition purple 3D glasses maybe? :P)
- A 3D Blu-ray release.
- A limited run of IMAX 3D screenings.
- A 4K HDR Remaster released on 4K Blu-ray.
If you're a fan of Justin's, please sign this and then share this on all your social media channels, get the word out so we can make this happen.
If you're Justin or a part of Justin's team, please know that the majority of the fanbase supports Justin in taking time off to prioritise his health and I had this idea to ease the burn of the tour cancellation, it would mean so much to the fans. If you work with Justin or are Justin, please share this so we can get the traction and signatures required to make this happen.
I would love to talk with some members of Justin's creative team, Paramount Pictures or Jon M. Chu to share some ideas of how we can make this a once in a lifetime opportunity for the fans, I have experience in this field and understand that it has to financially make sense in order to happen, let's talk!
This is my first ever change.org petition, so it's possible I have missed the mark or haven't included enough information, I didn't know what other options I had left after speaking with so many theatres and film distribution people, I figured this should be in the hands of the fans.
Please reach out if there's something you feel I should add or would like to share your story of how this film has impacted you.
