The Issue

I have been going to Turlock Lake since I was 11 years old. It was a cherished place where my family and friends gathered to enjoy the scenic beauty, engage in outdoor activities, and create unforgettable memories. However, since its closure in 2021, a sense of loss has permeated our community, and our connection to this treasured natural resource has been severed.

Turlock Lake, managed by the Turlock Irrigation District (TID), has served as a crucial recreational spot for thousands of visitors each year, providing opportunities for swimming, fishing, boating, and picnicking. The closure not only impacts those local to the area but also travelers who have historically visited the region, boosting the local economy through tourism.

Unfortunately, the board of supervisors perceives there to be insufficient public interest to warrant re-opening the lake. This is a misconception. The community's voice has not been adequately represented, and there remains a significant demand for access to this beloved lake.

Re-opening Turlock Lake will provide a much-needed space for community gatherings and recreational activities.

We understand that challenges exist in maintaining such public amenities, but these are not insurmountable. With community support and collaborative efforts, sustainable management of the lake is achievable.

By signing this petition, you are expressing your support for the re-opening of Turlock Lake, reaffirming its importance to our community, and highlighting the need for accessible public recreational spaces. Let's come together to ensure that future generations can enjoy the lake as we once did. Please join me in urging the board of supervisors and the Turlock Irrigation District to take swift action to reinstate public access to Turlock Lake.
