Re-open the Chesapeake City Elementary Playground for Public Use

The Issue

I am a member of Chesapeake City, Maryland, sharing a story that holds sentimental value to me and many others in our community. Growing up, the Chesapeake City Elementary Playground was an integral part of my daily life - it was the place I visited every day during school, after school, and a frequent spot during the summer. This story is not unique to just me but is a shared narrative for countless locals who have grown fond memories tied to this cherished space.

Since 1958, our local playground has been a community hub - a place where laughter echoed, and friendships flourished. With the Elementary School's unfortunate closure, not a day has passed when families were not found enjoying their time on the playground. In fact, one of our local churches runs a daycare and the young ones, our future generation, walk down to the playground almost every single day.

The sudden decision to close public access to the playground has not only left a void in our daily routines but has also broken many hearts, both young and old. It's beyond just a disappointment, it's a community distress.

This playground is more than just swings and slides; it's our heritage, our shared memory, and for our young ones, it's their present. The decision to close it to the public affects not only our collective past but also our present and future. We, therefore, urge the decision-makers of Chesapeake City to reconsider the closure, hear our plea, and reopen the Chesapeake City Elementary Playground for public use. This is not only about preserving a community space, but it's also about honoring a legacy. Please sign this petition and stand with us to keep our memories alive.
