The Purple Gym (Ehinger Gym) has been the hub for multicultural student life on West Chester University's campus for decades (see attached flyers). MOAB Organizations have used the gym to host concerts, parties, and programs; all of which have contributed positively to our campus. Since Spring 2022, however, MOAB organizations have been unable to host such events due to a "fire hazard" cause by a lack of smoke detectors in the building.

However, classes continue to be held in the Purple Gym and there has been no communication as to when fire detectors will be installed. Lack of communication from administration about the availability of the Purple Gym and a lack of concern regarding multicultural student life has forced MOAB to petition the University to 1) immediately arrange the "fixing" of the Purple Gym by adding smoke detectors (and fixing anything else contributing to issues with the Gym's usage), and/or 2) arrange a different on-campus space for MOAB organizations to host late night large events.
