On September 7, 2024, Diamond Baseball Holdings and its partners unveiled the name for the city of Columbus' new AA affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Even with the drama surrounding the process of bringing this new club to the Columbus area, thousands of baseball fans waited in anticipation to learn the name of the team we would be rooting for over the next 20 years. Given the rich history of our town both within the baseball community and out, we waited with high hopes of a name that expressed that history on not just a local level but a national level as well. Instead, local fans were left perplexed and saddened as the grand reveal took place of our new club name: The Columbus Clingstones.

While I believe many fans will still go and show support for our new team, DBH and its partners missed the mark. I won't go through a list of names that they could have chosen but will state that there should have been more thought of the local community as well as more input from the local community. This petition ask that DBH reconsider the name of the team and instead of them telling us what they think we want to hear, listen to what thousands of local baseball fans are saying.  The town is talking DBH.
