Great news—Vestavia City leadership has officially responded to our Rathmell Park petition. They’ve committed to placing a permanent radar speed sign on East Street and conducting a new traffic study, which is a meaningful step forward. Thanks to your voices, this petition has clearly shifted the tone of the conversation. We’ve also proposed key refinements to ensure the new study measures real risk and livability impact, not just speed.

However, there were important omissions in their response:

• No mention of BUSA or Mountain Brook—the primary contributors to the problem
• No acknowledgment of Hillway Dr, North Cahaba Dr, or other feeder streets, which are equally affected

We’ve sent a detailed follow-up to hold leadership accountable and ensure every concern is addressed—not just those on East Street.

City leaders are listening, but this isn’t over. Please continue reaching out to City Hall to remind them that our entire neighborhood deserves relief, not just a radar sign.
