We wanted to share an update just received from the City regarding the East Street and surrounding traffic concerns.

Two Radar Signs on East Street: Within the next two weeks, the City will replace the current temporary radar speed sign with a permanent one. At that time, the temporary sign will also remain on East Street, so there will be two radar signs on East Street total. Data will determine the success or failure of these radar signs.

Hillway Drive Sign: Once the new permanent sign is in place, the temporary sign that had been on Hillway Drive will be returned there.

Extended Data Collection: The City is extending data collection through the end of September to capture traffic during the upcoming soccer tournament weekend, when traffic is especially heavy.

Study Coverage: Data is being collected not only for East Street but also for surrounding streets, and it extends back to early summer.

Study Findings: After September, the City will compile and analyze all data. A complete summary of findings is expected in late October or early November.

The City emphasized that while this has taken several months, gathering data during peak times (like tournament weekends) is important to fully evaluate current conditions. We have asked the lead engineer to please measure Volume-Weighted Risk Exposure (Total Vehicles × % Speeding Vehicles). This should give us a more accurate risk measurement of total speeding vehicles, instead of using only percentages in past studies.
