Family Visiting in Hospitals
The Issue
Many families have been impacted by the outbreak of Covid-19. While this is a serious pandemic, there are other issues going on that are just as serious. Many people are losing their loved ones that are residing in hospitals across the state and country. Some family members are being lost to Covid-19, but others are being lost to other illnesses or simply to age.
Too many people have lost family members recently without being able to say their final goodbyes. Hospitals are not allowing visitors due to the pandemic, which is understandable. However, if a family member is knowingly about to pass away, there should be an exception. I could not imagine losing my mother, father, brother, sister, or any family member without saying goodbye.
It is an awful thing to lose a family member in the first place. Knowing a family member is about to pass away and being restricted from seeing them one last time before never being able to see them again is an unbearable amount of pain.
Additionally, people who are sick, struggling, suffering, and on the verge of passing away do not deserve to do so alone. Imagine being in a hospital bed breathing your last breaths, but with nobody by your side. Nobody deserves to have the feeling of dying alone, so change has got to be made.
Imagine if your family member was about to pass. You would certainly not want them to pass away with nobody by their side, and you would certainly want to see them one last time. While Covid-19 should be taken seriously, there are methods to still allow family members to visit a resident who is going to pass. Take whatever precautions that are necessary (masks, gloves, gowns, etc.), but it is extremely insensitive to deny someone a final farewell to their loved ones.
