Rally Behind Rip - Community Action of Right to Safety at Callahan
The Issue
On Wednesday April 9, 2025 approximately 4:30 pm EDT, Rip Lee Trudeau was struck by a speeding vehicle whose driver was distracted and not looking at the road headed north up Poplin Ave to Callahan, claiming his short life. Rip - a 4month old Border Collie/Jack Russell - did not deserve the untimely traumatic death he endured. The loss is that of a family member and son, a brother and friend. Let not his death be in vain, make the change!
Improving public safety requires a comprehensive set of accountability and prevention strategies that seek to change behavior while addressing the conditions giving rise to safety amongst the Bradford community. Everyone deserves to be safe where they live. Protecting the right of every individual to be free of crime, violence and ensuring safety—regardless of race, wealth, health, ability, or background—is one of the most important responsibilities of government and community leaders and is essential to fostering thriving communities.
Speeding through residential neighborhoods and outdoor recreational areas is a common practice in Bradford, PA which needs to be addressed with the utmost seriousness for the safety of ourselves, children, families, pets and all others alike.
Adding speed humps and lowering the speed limit to 15mph up Poplin Avenue (north of Willard Avenue) leading to Callahan Park & Pool - a dead-end, year round, public recreation area - will greatly increase the overall safety of the community and quality of recreational activities this area offers.
Your signature on this petition will support lowering the speed limit on Poplin Avenue to 15mph AND the installation of self policing speed humps.
